Late Rally Dooms Softball Against UC Santa Barbara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball lost the final game of the Silicon Valley Classic II 4-3 to UC Santa Barbara on Sunday.

The Broncos (8-16) led most of the way but a three run sixth inning by the Gauchos (12-15) proved to be the difference.

A two out, two-run single by Hannah Damore was the big hit in the decisive sixth that gave UC Santa Barbara the lead.

Aubree Kim (0-4), in her second inning of work out of the bullpen, surrendered the runs and got the loss. She allowed three runs on two hits with two walks.

Tyler Goldstein and Nayah Pola also collected RBIs with Pola and Devan Sperry each adding two hits.

Felisha Noriega (5-3) got the win in 4 innings of relief, allowing just one run on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Alyssa Molina lasted 3 innings in the start and gave up two runs while getting a no-decision.

After UCSB tied the score in the top of the fourth, Santa Clara rallied with two in the bottom of the frame to jump back ahead. Kenzie Yamakoshi got the first run home with a bloop single over the shortstop and Eleni Spirakis had a two out RBI single to right.

Spirakis finished the day 3-for-4 and added a run scored with Taylor Burns adding two hits, including a double, and an RBI.

Lauren Schiek was solid in the 4 inning start but got a no-decision. She allowed a run on five hits with a walk and a strikeout.
