Softball Falls to California Baptist

PALO ALTO, Calif. – A pair of late runs were too much for Santa Clara softball to overcome in a 7-5 defeat at the hands of California Baptist Friday afternoon.

The Lancers (5-6) took leads in each of the first, third, and fourth innings but the Broncos (1-2) answered back in the bottom of each frame.

California Baptist scored again in the top of the sixth and was able to hold Santa Clara scoreless in the bottom of the inning. The Lancers added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.

Katelyn Mangrello led the offense with a 3-for-3 day while driving in three. Ashley McBay went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and Makayla Jordan had a pair of doubles, a walk, and scored two runs.

Kerisa Viramontes (4-2) tossed a complete game to get the win. She allowed five runs on 10 hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Emma Bickford had a big day for the Broncos, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Her two-run shot in the bottom of the first answered the Lancers' first inning runs and her RBI single in the third tied the game again.

Allyson Ferreira also added an RBI when her single brought home two runs to tie the game at 5-all in the fourth.

Ashley Trierweiler had two hits and a walk while scoring two runs out of the leadoff spot.

Regan Dias (1-1) took the loss while going the distance. She surrendered seven runs on 13 hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
