Softball Drops Game to San Jose State

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball was beaten 10-3 by San Jose State at home on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans (4-11) bats got hotter as the game went on, highlighted by three runs in the fifth and four more in the seventh. They also got a single run in the second to take the early lead and added two more in the third.

Janessa Lozano had the biggest day at the plate for San Jose State, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Karizma Bergesen added a pair of hits, including a double, two RBIs, and a run scored, and Jocylyn Vidal had a home run and four RBIs.

Janessa Ullegue (4-4) lasted 4 1/3 innings in the start, picking up the win. She allowed a run on six hits.

The Broncos (3-7) got a little offense going in the seventh, scoring two runs, but it was too little too late. Both Ashley Trierweiler and Emma Bickford had RBIs during the inning.

Trierweiler was 4-for-4 atop the lineup with a triple to move her team-leading on-base percentage to .636. Bickford added two hits and two RBIs with Kenzie Yamakoshi hitting a double.

Lauren Anderson (1-1) started and went 3 innings while allowing three runs on five hits with a strikeout to take the loss.

UP NEXT
The next schedule game is set for Friday, March 26 as the Broncos host Saint Mary's in a nonconference game.
