Softball Plays at San Diego Saturday and Sunday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball finishes its road schedule with three games at San Diego. Saturday will be a doubleheader beginning at noon. Sunday will season the series finale at noon.

The Broncos dropped their series-opener at Saint Mary's on Friday and came back Saturday with a split.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (6-16, 3-6 WCC) have scored 57 runs so far this season on 18 doubles, four triples, and three home runs.

Ashley Trierweiler, a nominee for the 2021 Schutt Sports/NFCA DI Freshman of the Year, leads the team in average (.475), on-base percentage (.550), stolen bases and attempts (10-for-11), runs scored (15), and triples (2) to go with a double and nine RBIs. Emma Bickford is hitting .355 and leads the Broncos in home runs (2), doubles (5), RBIs (18), and slugging percentage (.565). she has scored five runs and added a triple.

Liyah Lopez has appeared in 12 games in the circle and started 12 with three complete games and a shutout while throwing 34 1/3 innings. Zoe Straughn has tossed 23 2/3 innings in nine appearances, including three starts and one complete game. Lauren Anderson has two complete games and has pitched 30 1/3 innings.

THE TOREROS
San Diego (10-26, 2-7 WCC) has lost eight in a row and 11 of 13. The Toreros have scored 71 runs this year on 22 doubles, six triples, and five home runs while hitting .226.

Amanda Limon leads the team in hitting with a .303 average and three triples. She has scored seven runs and driving in three with two doubles. Rion Simms has a team-high 11 RBIs and has scored six runs with five doubles. Malia Benson's 10 runs scored are the most on the team and she has a double and an RBI.

McKenna Braegelmann leads the Toreros with a 1.95 ERA and five wins. She has tossed 46 2/3 innings with 40 strikeouts. Madison Earnshaw has a team-best 48 strikeouts while throwing the most innings with 89 2/3. Courtney Rose has also thrown 62 1/3 innings with 44 punchouts.
