Men’s Golfer Honored for Links and Classroom Prowess

NORMAN, Okla.Hayden Shieh of the Santa Clara men's golf team has earned another honor.

The junior was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar for his performance on both the links and in the classroom during 2016-17.

Shieh is coming off a season in which he made his third-straight appearance in the NCAA Championships, one of his 11 events. He recorded seven top-10 finishes, including a runner-up showing at the WCC Championships (April 20-22 in Provo, Utah) while maintaining more than a 3.50 grade-point average.

He posted a 70.70 stroke average in 2016-17 en route to earning first-team All-West Coast Conference honors for the second-straight season.

Sheih was also named a 2016-17 PING All-Region honoree.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, which is presented by the Golf Coaches Association of America, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.20.
