Men’s Tennis Coaching Staff Completed

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Niall Angus, heading into his second season as Santa Clara head men's tennis coach, has completed his staff.

After a stellar playing career in the BIG EAST Conference, Mikheil Khmiadashvili has been hired as an assistant coach for the Broncos.

Khmiadashvili, who started his collegiate career at Santa Clara though finished at Butler in the spring, helped lead the Bulldogs to the 2017 NCAA Championships, while also qualifying for the national tournament in doubles.

Last season, Khmiadashvili posted a 25-7 singles record and was 22-7 in doubles to earn BIG EAST Player of the Year and MVP of the league tournament.

"I am delighted to add Mikheil to our staff," Angus said. "He has a deep passion for the game and shares the vision that I have for the Santa Clara men's tennis program. Mikheil brings championship experience from his playing days at Butler University and I am excited to get to work on achieving the same thing with him here."

Khmiadashvili etched his name in the Butler record book during his two seasons. He and Mason Dragos were chosen to participate in the 2017 NCAA Doubles Championships, the first Butler players to be selected for an NCAA individual championship event.

That duo reached No. 23 in the 2016-17 ITA doubles rankings, the highest in school history.

A native of Tbilisi, Georgia, Khmiadashvili spent the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons at Santa Clara.

"I am very excited to be back to Santa Clara as an assistant coach," Khmiadashvili said. "After finishing my college career back in May, I knew that I wasn't done with tennis. I was still hungry to win trophies and experience the unique environment that college tennis is all about. I am looking forward to this upcoming season and hope to help coach Angus transform SCU's tennis program into a national powerhouse."

Khmiadashvili began his new role this month.
