Men's Tennis Heads To Stockton For ITA Northwest Regional Championships

2017 ITA Northwest Regional Championships Draws/Results

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis plays its second tournament of the 2017-18 fall season starting Thursday in the 2017 ITA Northwest Regional Championships which will be held in Stockton, California. 

The five-day ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's players across the country at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center on the campus of University of the Pacific.  Over 8,000 student–athletes from NCAA Division I II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges will compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the nation.  The Northwest Regional will be comprised of players from many of the Division I tennis programs on the west coast including those from the WCC including Gonzaga, Portland and host Pacific, along with Pac-12 programs Cal and Stanford. 

Santa Clara's seven-player roster of Connor Garnett, Andrew Gu, Vasileios Iliopoulos, Kamran Khan, Sebastien Mathieu, Robert Seby and Jesus Tapiador Barajas will all see singles action.  In doubles play, Garnett, Gu, Iliopoulos, Khan, Seby and Barajas will participate. 

In singles, it will be a 128 player draw and for doubles, a 64 team draw.  The winners and runner-ups for singles and doubles will qualify for the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships to be held Nov.1-5 in Palm Desert and Indian Wells, California, serving as the concluding event to the fall portion of the college tennis schedule.

The Broncos are an experienced crew with each player having seen action with the program.

Last season, junior Andrew Gu led the team in singles wins with 18, including a 13-4 mark in dual matches. Junior Robert Seby played atop the lineup, posting a 9-8 record in dual singles match. Connor Garnett, another junior, was 17-7 overall in singles. Garnett and Seby teamed often in doubles, posting an 8-4 record, including 5-2 as the top position in dual matches.
