Men’s Tennis Opens Conference Play This Weekend At Home
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis looks to get back on the winning track in its West Coast Conference opener when it hosts Pacific on Saturday and Saint Mary's on Sunday.  First serve is set for Noon PT on Saturday (*UPDATE: Saturday's first serve was pushed out to 1 p.m. due to rain) at the Degheri Tennis Center in the Dick's Sporting Goods conference opener.  Sunday's first serve is at 2 p.m. PT (changed from the original time of Noon PT).

The Broncos (8-5) have dropped their last three matches after winning eight straight.

"This is going to be an interesting challenge for us this week because this is the first time we've lost a couple of matches consecutively in the middle of the season.  And now we need to turn it around because we are starting conference," said the second-year Broncos head coach Niall Angus.  "We will find out how tough the team is and how hard they work during practice this week."

Jesus Tapiador Barajas and Connor Garnett each won two singles matches last week against Oregon and Boise State, on courts three and four.  Both players improved their singles records to 9-2 to post the best records on the team ahead of 8-3 Andrew Gu whose played on court one all season.

In doubles, Gu and Robert Seby tops the team with an 8-2 record playing on court one, followed by Tapiador Barajas and Vasileios Iliopoulos' 7-4 record on court two.  Garnett and Kamran Khan are 5-6 playing on court three.

Pacific (3-11, 0-1 WCC) has already opened WCC play with a 4-0 loss to BYU on March 9.  The Tigers will play another conference opponent, San Francisco on Friday prior to the match with the Broncos.

Saint Mary's (3-9) opens its conference play at San Francisco on Saturday before playing the Broncos.
