SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis returns home this weekend to host three local schools at the Degheri Tennis Center after playing indoor matches in West Point, New York last weekend. The Broncos play two matches on Saturday, against Holy Names at 10 a.m. and Sonoma State at 2 p.m., followed by a Sunday match against UC Santa Cruz at 10 a.m. PT.
"It will be our first matches at home and coming back outdoors will be nice and to familiarize ourselves playing in front of Bronco Nation. Last weekend, we played some good tennis and I'm expecting us to grow as the season goes on especially as we move outdoors," said Broncos head coach Niall Angus.
Holy Names and Sonoma State will be playing their first dual matches this winter-spring season. The match against Santa Clara will also be an exhibition for both Holy Names and Sonoma State. UC Santa Cruz will be playing its second match, having lost to Fresno State, 7-0, on Jan. 21.
The Broncos went 1-2 at the East Coast Challenge in West Point, beating host Army, 4-0, while dropping the matches against Yale and Florida Atlantic, both by a 4-2 score.
Juniors Connor Garnett and Andrew Gu each picked up four wins at the East Coast Challenge. Garnett won each of his three singles matches along with a doubles win and Gu picked two wins each in singles and doubles while playing on Court one for both.
