Women's Soccer Selected for 26th NCAA Tournament Appearance

Bracket

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's soccer is headed to the NCAA Tournament after receiving at at-large bid on Monday. Long Beach State will travel to Stevens Stadium Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Broncos have made the NCAA Tournament 26 times in the last 28 years and seven of the last eight. They are looking to advance to the 11th College Cup in program history and add a second national championship to the title they won in 2001.

Santa Clara is 4-0 all-time vs. Long Beach State and beat the 49ers 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season at Stevens Stadium. This will be the fourth time the two programs have met in the NCAA Tournament.

The Broncos finished the regular season No. 34 in the RPI and picked up two wins to go with three ties against teams in the final top-40. The Broncos ended up facing five of the top-seven teams, going 1-1-2 in those matches. The biggest win of the year was the season-opening 3-2 overtime victory vs. USC, who finished ranked fourth.

Early in the year Santa Clara struggled on the offensive end but have picked up the scoring since conference play and is playing its best soccer of the season. The Broncos have scored multiple goals in five of their last seven games and are riding a four-match winning streak. They finished the season in third place in the West Coast Conference, three points behind co-champions Pepperdine and BYU who were the other WCC schools to make the tournament.
