SANTA CLARA, Calif.—The Santa Clara women's tennis team completed the second day of the Saint Mary's Invitational in Moraga, Calif. on Saturday. Four Bronco players have advanced to the third and final day of the Invite that continues Sunday morning with singles and doubles championship matches.
In the red singles draw, senior and No. 1 seed Katie Le defeated Tori Troesch of Portland in the round of 16 by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Advancing to the semifinals, Le topped Aishwarya Agrawal of Fresno State in the quarterfinals 6-3, 6-2. On Sunday, Le will compete in the semifinals against Ellen Tsay of Saint Mary's to try to contest for the championship singles match at 1:30 p.m.
In the red consolation draw, freshman Daniella Silva fell to No. 2 seed Andrea Ka of University of San Francisco by a score of 6-4, 6-1. In the blue consolation singles draw, Bronco Elaine Chesoni reached the quarterfinals by defeating Anna Klavins of Cal Poly, 6-3, 6-0. In the quarterfinals, Chesoni could not edge Sissi Koehler of Gonzaga and fell in three-sets, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0(2).
In the red doubles draw, Santa Clara duo Silva and Le will compete in the championship match against Agrawal and Claire Yang Wo of Fresno State. Silva and Le topped Ka and Thyra Taune of USF in the semifinals by a score of 8-5.
In the blue doubles draw, Bronco partners Nikki Wolny and Stephanie Skaras fell in the semifinal match to Isabel Klingert and Katie Edwards of Gonzaga by a score of 8-2.
