Tournament Draws/Results

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—The Santa Clara University women's tennis team has begun preparing for another great season after the Broncos captured a share of the West Coast Conference regular season title last spring. The team will play its first tournament this season, the Cal Nike Invitational, starting this Fri., Sept. 27 through Sun., Sept. 29 in Berkeley, Calif.

"I have been happy with how we started," said Bronco head coach Ben Cabell, who returns to his seventh year as a head coach. "They all came back ready to go and they are looking forward to playing in the tournaments this fall to get ready for the season in spring. We have set high goals this year based on what we did the last couple of years."

Draws and times will be posted on the Cal Nike Invitational website late Thursday. All matches played in Hellman Tennis Complex over the weekend can be streamed live. Friday's matches will begin with one round of doubles followed by two rounds of singles, starting at 8:00 a.m. On Saturday, there will be two rounds of doubles followed by one round of singles. Finally on Sunday, doubles finals will be followed by singles semifinals and finals.

The Cal Nike Invitational is the first of four preseason tournaments for the 2013-14 Broncos. The team competed in this Invite last year and had a good showing with four players making it into the top flights in singles play.

After four players graduated last spring, the Broncos have added three new players to its roster. Freshman Daniella Silva and walk-on senior Elaine Chesoni will be participating in this weekend's invitational with the rest of the returning players while senior transfer Samantha Critser is waiting for eligibility.
