Cooke & Le Named to WCC All-Tournament Team

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announced it's Women's Tennis All-Tournament selections on Saturday, April 26 after the end of the WCC Championships, naming Santa Clara's Chelby Cooke and Katie Le as the No. 1 doubles All-Tournament Team.

The sophomore-senior combination went 3-0 in the WCC Championships this past weekend, significantly helping Santa Clara reach the tournament semifinals for the fifth consecutive time and finish fourth in the WCC regular season standings. They led the fourth-seeded Bronco squad to wins over Portland, 4-0 in the first round and San Diego, 4-3, in the quarterfinals.

In doubles against No. 9 Portland, Cooke and Le topped Sophie van den Aarssen and Jelena Lazarevic by a score of 8-4 to get Santa Clara on the board first. In the quarterfinals, the Bronco partners breezed through Shani Blecher and Marta Stojanovic of San Diego to an 8-3 win.

As a team, Santa Clara was unable to edge top-seeded Pepperdine in the semifinals, but Cooke and Le successfully notched another win under their new partnership. The Bronco duo defeated the Wave's Lorraine Guillermo and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai in a thrilling match on court one. Cooke and Le came out on top in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (4), to tally their sixth straight win together.

This is the first honor for the Bronco duo that began playing at the No. 1 position together on March 15. Cooke and Le post a dual record of 8-1, with their only loss coming from Mayci Jones and Toby Miclat of BYU on April 4.
