Women's Tennis: Saturday Results of San Jose Spartan Invitational

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's tennis team completed the second day of the San Jose Spartan Invitational on Saturday with singles matches against San Jose State and doubles against Nevada and San Francisco. The third and final day continues Sunday as the Broncos take on Nevada in singles beginning at 9:30 a.m. following doubles versus San Francisco at 12:00 p.m.

In singles, junior Nikki Wolny came out on top over Tipper Truong of the host school, San Jose State, in two-sets 6-3, 7-5. Freshman Daniella Silva battled to three-sets against Gaelle Rey of the Spartans but could not convert and fell, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Delphine Rouvillois dropped the first set, 4-6 against Sabi Leon-Chao and fired back in the second, 6-3. Cooke was edged out in the third-set, 7-5.

In doubles competition on Saturday, Bronco duo Stephanie Skaras and Wolny defeated Monika Magusiak and Sheila Smiley of Nevada 8-6. Partners Katie Le and Silva fell in a tiebreaker to Michelle Okhremchuk and Sheila Morales Hidalgo of Nevada, 8-7(4).

Santa Clara goes up against Nevada and San Francisco on Sun., Nov. 10 as its final Fall competition.
