Women's Tennis Ends Fall Season at San Jose Spartan Invite

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's tennis team finished the third and final day of the San Jose Spartan Invitational on Sunday with singles matches against Nevada and San Jose State and doubles versus San Francisco. Now that the Fall season is over, the Broncos look forward to regular season competition in January.

In doubles play, Bronco duo Katie Le and Daniella Silva topped San Francisco's Andrea Ka and Sofia Holmberg by a score of 8-2. Stephanie Skaras and Delphine Rouvillois were edged out by Marina Nikolic and Thyra Taune of the Dons, 8-4. Elaine Chesoni and Nikki Wolny went up against Brooke Irish and Milica Hadzi-Tanovic of San Francisco and fell in a tiebreaker, 8-7(4).

In singles compeition, Silva was defeated by Michelle Okhremchuk of Nevada in two-sets, 6-2, 6-1.  Chesoni could not capture the win over Monika Magusiak of Nevada and fell by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Finally, Wolny was edged out by Jessica Willett of San Jose State by a score of 6-4, 6-2.

Santa Clara has wrapped up preseason play for the Fall and will resume play with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kick Off in Berkeley, Calif. on Jan. 24, 2014.
