SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Berkeley, Calif.) – The Santa Clara women's tennis team wrapped up the first competition of the Fall season at the Cal Nike Invitational on Sunday. Bronco freshmen, Riley Morgan and Zeina El Tawil, reached the final day of matches in their White and Gold consolation brackets.
Santa Clara looks forward to its next tournament at the ITA Regionals in Stanford, Calif. on Oct. 10.
In singles on Sunday, Morgan went up against Saskia Angerer of Sacramento in the White singles consolation semifinals. The Palos Verdes, Calif. native fell in two sets, 6-3, 6-3, but performed well in her first collegiate competition.
Bronco Zeina El Tawil faced the host team's Stephanie Lin of Cal in the Gold singles consolation semifinals. El Tawil put up a tough fight but the Cal opponent proved too much, taking the match in two sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Over the weekend, Nabila Farah and Morgan reached the semifinals of the White bracket in doubles after their first time playing together. Two other Santa Clara duos made it to the quarterfinals of the Gold doubles consolation draws.
