SANTA CLARA, Calif - The Santa Clara women's tennis team returns to the Degheri Tennis Center this weekend for a 12 pm match against the UC Davis Aggies on Sat., March 14.  The match was originally set for Feb. 7 in Santa Clara, but was rescheduled due to rain.

Coincidentally, the match last year against Davis was cancelled due to rain.  "We've had some close matches with Davis in the past and this should be another close one on Saturday," added Bronco head coach Cabell.

The Broncos have played their last three matches on the road, with two in Santa Barbara and one at San Francisco.

"We're back at home this weekend, which is always nice," said Cabell.  "We feel like we've been playing better and improving, and this is a great opportunity for us to get a good win."

Santa Clara has found itself unable to lock away a recent win, but not due to lack of effort.  Since collecting its two first wins of the season, the team has played an impressively during an unexpectedly strong schedule.

"All the teams we've played since the first weekend [against Academy of Art and Sonoma State] have ended up in the national rankings," noted Cabell.  "We didn't plan that."

As of the March 10 ITA rankings, five of the last six Bronco opponents – SJSU, Fresno State, Wichita State, Oregon and USF – were ranked in the nation's top 75; Santa Barbara fell out of the rankings but sat at No. 73 on March 3.

The Aggies are not ranked coming into the match.  Davis is 5-9 overall with a 2-6 away record.  Their wins have come against Northern Arizona, Portland State, Cal State Fullerton, UC Riverside and Cal Poly.  Both the Broncos and Aggies have lost to Santa Barbara and San Francisco.

Last weekend the Broncos put two points on the board behind the singles play of Chelby Cooke and Daniella Silva.  And junior Delphine Rouvillois returns to bolster the Broncos in her second match back since the first weekend of play.

"It's good to have Delphine back; it makes us quite a bit more competitive," Cabell said.  "Going forward, we have to take advantage of our opportunities, which starts this weekend."
