SAN FRANCISCO, Calif – In its first WCC match of the season, the Santa Clara women's tennis team fell to San Francisco by a final score of 5-2.

"We made it pretty close and almost pulled it off," said head coach Ben Cabell.  "The team worked really hard today."

At the No. 1 doubles spot, Nabila Farah and Daniella Silva teamed up but lost to Andrea Ka and Marina Nikolic by a score of 6-2.  The junior tandem of Delphine Rouvillois and Chelby Cooke then knocked off Thyra Taune and Genevieve McCloskey 7-6(4) on court two to even up the doubles play.  Tied through two doubles matches and with the point lying on the third, Zeina El Tawil and Riley Morgan scrapped, but lost in a 12-game set that put the Dons on the board.

In singles play the team captured two of the points, but was unable to come away with enough.  Chelby Cooke collected her second win of the day as she beat Milica Hadzi-Tanovic 6-2, 7-5.  And sophomore Daniella Silva notched a point over Marina Nikolic in an extensive three-set match that ended 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

"It's great to have Delphine back as we go forward," Cabell continued, referring to the junior who returned to play against San Francisco after being sidelined since February.  "We're continuing to get better, and I'm really proud of the effort from our girls."

The Broncos are back on the court at home on Mar. 14 at 12 p.m. to take on UC Davis.
