SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's tennis team dives into the remainder of its conference play with two matches on the road this week.  The team heads down to Loyola Marymount on Thurs., Apr. 2 for a 1:30 p.m. match before traversing 20 miles up the road from there to Pepperdine for an 11 a.m. match on Sat., Apr. 4.

The Broncos improved to 5-7 on the season following a 6-1 win over Montana on Mar. 27.  Santa Clara has won three of its last four, including a 6-1 victory that came against San Diego for its first WCC win.

"We're coming off a good conference win against USD," said head coach Ben Cabell.  "We've done a good job getting ourselves in the best possible place going into the conference portion of the season, and are excited to play our next conference matches."

Santa Clara's closest upcoming foe is the Loyola Marymount Lions.  LMU is 3-14 and winless in conference, with its wins coming over UC Riverside, Cal Poly and Utah State.  The Lions have lost their last six matches, including their most recent defeat at the hands of the San Diego Toreros on Mar. 29.

Pepperdine on the other hand continues its ascent of both the WCC standings and the national rankings.  The Waves are the only team still undefeated in conference, and boast the No. 15 ranking in the nation, along with two of the top Division I women's tennis players in No. 10 Lorraine Guillermo and No. 95 Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai.  Also, Matea Cutura and Christine Maddox pair up for the Waves to form the 25th ranked doubles squad nationally.  Pepperdine is 9-4, though these losses have come against impressive opposition.  They fell to USC twice, UCLA and Berkeley, who are currently ranked No. 1, 4 and 3 respectively, with three of these four matches finishing by a score of 4-3.

Cabell maintains faith in the Broncos in both matches, saying, "We think we've got a great shot against LMU and Pepperdine. We're looking forward to the matches."
