SANTA CLARA, Calif – The Santa Clara women's tennis team heads down the road this weekend to the Spartan Courts of host San Jose State in the 2014 Spartan Invitational. The final tournament of the fall season for the Broncos begins on Fri., Nov. 7 at 9:30 a.m. and plays through Sun., Nov. 9.
This year's Spartan Invitational gathers squads from Santa Clara and San Jose State, as well as San Francisco. In the round-robin format of the tournament, every school will play each of the others in both singles and doubles. The Broncos play San Jose State in singles to kick off the tournament on Friday morning, and the doubles teams will take on San Francisco on Friday afternoon.
"We're looking forward to playing teams in this format because it's the first time we're going to be playing somewhat as a team this season," said head coach Ben Cabell. "We're trying to get everybody as ready as possible since this is our last tournament of the fall."
Delphine Rouvillois has looked prepared this fall season, going 5-2 in singles in the last two tournaments. Rouvillois and Zeina El Tawil as a doubles team and the pairing of Chelby Cooke and Nabila Farah are both 3-1.
All eight members of the Broncos are set to take on the competition this weekend. Along with Rouvillois, El Tawil, Cooke and Farah, Elaine Chesoni, Riley Morgan, Daniella Silva and Danielle Zinn will all report to the court.
"We're continuing to work on our doubles and also getting the new players even more experience," said Cabell. "We've made good progress this fall and we're looking to finish on a high note."
