Women’s Tennis Topped by UCSB

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's tennis team fell to the host Santa Barbara Gauchos with a final score of 4-1.

Due to the threat of rain, the match was pushed up an hour to 10 a.m., and the singles matchups were played first to ensure completion of a decisive match, and doubles play was eventually foregone.

The Broncos and Gauchos faced off in their respective second and third matches of the weekend; Santa Barbara beat LMU and they both lost to Oregon.

The Gauchos put together a 3-0 lead from singles wins on courts two, six, and five.  Nabila Farah scrapped at the number one spot against Jaimee Gilbertson, taking the first set but ultimately falling 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.

Daniella Silva earned the sole point for the Broncos in a battle against April Scatliffe, coming out victorious in a tight match that finished 6-4, 7-6(3) and marked the end of the dual match.

Santa Clara has two weeks off before its next match.  The team returns against USF on Mar. 8 in San Francisco to mark the start of conference play.
