SANTA CLARA, Calif – The Santa Clara women's tennis team fell Saturday at home to the No. 50 Brigham Young Cougars by a score of 5-2.

"We played well and it was a really close match," said head coach Ben Cabell.  "But BYU played a little better today."

The Cougars kicked off the day with quick wins over the Broncos at the No. 3 and 2 spots in doubles play.

"Doubles were key to the match," Cabell said.  "We were winning at No. 1," referencing Daniella Silva and Nabila Farah, who were leading Tobi Miclat and Brittanie Eraso 5-3 when BYU clinched the point.

Delphine Rouvillois at No. 1 took down Meghan Sheehan-Dizon, allowing only two games to the Cougar in a 6-1, 6-1 defeat.  Her match tied the score at 1-1.  "Delphine played a really good match at No. 1," noted Cabell.

The next two matches to finish went against the Broncos, with Daniella Silva losing to Toby Miclat and Morgan Anderson-Littlewood beating Zeina El Tawil, putting the Cougars on top 3-1.  Riley Morgan kept it tight versus Erica Valimaki, but eventually Valimaki pulled away and finalized the result of the match in favor of Brigham Young.

After the match had been decided, Nabila Farah still put up a strong showing over Nicolette Tran, coming out with the individual win with a score of 6-4, 6-7(5), 11-9.  Chelby Cooke was tireless, but it wasn't quite enough against Savannah Ware, who won 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

The Broncos are back on the court Sunday at Noon, hosting the visiting San Diego Toreros.

"We've got to play a little better tomorrow against San Diego; we've got a great shot against them," finished Cabell.
