SEASIDE, Calif. – Lauren Paxton posted a career-best four goals, Hannah Buck scored three times and Annie Eldredge produced two goals and a career-high four assists to help Santa Clara women's water polo hold off Cal State Monterey Bay, 14-11, on Saturday.
Morgan Tucker recorded four goals and Kaitlin Rooney scored three for the Otters (0-1) who tied the game twice in the final quarter after trailing by five in the opening half.
Rooney's goal with 5 minutes left in the game knotted the score at 10-all, but Maggie Oys, Eldredge and Hailey Eberle tallied markers in a 1:26 span for the Broncos (2-1) and Cal State Monterey Bay connected on only one its last six shots.
Paxton and Buck helped Santa Clara get off to a strong start. Paxton scored three times in the first 12 minutes and Buck's second goal gave the Broncos an 8-3 lead with less than 3 minutes left in the opening half.
Rooney's exclusion goal 35 seconds into the fourth quarter tied the game at 9-all, but Paxton scored 18 seconds later.
Lydia Dadd earned the win in net for the Broncos after posting seven saves.

• Hannah Buck, Emma Allegrucci, Annie Eldredge, Lauren Paxton, Maggie Oys, Hailey Eberle and Lydia Dadd started the game. The Broncos started the same unit all three games this year.
