Women's Water Polo Plays Host to Two Games This Weekend

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team will play host to a pair of games this weekend.

Santa Clara faces Sonoma State (5-8) on Saturday at noon and Harvard (12-2) the following day at noon in Sullivan Aquatic Center.

The Broncos (5-10) defeated the Seawolves, 13-8, earlier this season on the road. Hailey Eberle posted three goals and three assists, and Annie Eldredge scored three times and registered two assists.

"Last time we played them, the game was very physical," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "I think there are a couple factors that contributed to this last time.  One is that we were playing in a smaller pool, and usually with less energy spent on swimming, the game becomes more physical. Second is that we usually see Sonoma State two or three times a year, and in contact sports, the more you play each other, the more physical it can get.  Whatever the reason, I think this is something we need to be prepared for and not let it affect how we are play the rest of the game."

Sonoma State is coming off an 8-7 home loss to Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday.

Harvard won its first 10 games of the season, but is 2-2 in the last four. The Crimson will play games in California through next week.

Along with gearing up for these games, Santa Clara is preparing for a week of exams, starting Monday.

"This is always an interesting time of year with finals coming up next week," said Wilbur. "I like that we have two home games this weekend where we will be tested.  It's important to keep this competitive edge from week to week, especially with important conference games coming up the following week."
