SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After a 10-day break, the Santa Clara women's water polo team will play a pair of Golden Coast Conference games on the road this week.

The Broncos, who have won two of their last three outings, play San Diego State (10-11, 3-1) on Thursday at 4 p.m. and Concordia (10-6, 0-1) on Friday at 1:30 p.m.

"I really like how our team is playing," head coach Keith Wilbur said. "I really think we have been improving throughout the year, and the rest of our season is mostly conference games. This is what we have been working towards, and I think our players are ready to play their best at the right time"

Last season, the Broncos (6-11, 0-1) had one-goal decisions against both San Diego State and Concordia. Santa Clara lost to the Aztecs, 6-5, and defeated the Eagles, 8-7.

San Diego State won at Loyola Marymount, 9-7, on Saturday and at California Baptist, 10-6, on Sunday.

The Eagles have dropped four of their last five, including an 8-7 home loss to Princeton on Wednesday, March 20.

The Broncos were off last week as the academic quarter at Santa Clara wound down. The school is on spring break this week.

"Spring break is a time that we can really focus on water polo, and it is also a great time for team building," said Wilbur. "Only the spring sports are on campus, so we really encourage the players to do team bonding during the times that we are not practicing."

Last time out, the Broncos lost to Harvard, 9-6, on March 17.

"Practice during finals week can be challenging, but I think our team handled it well," Wilbur said. "We ran practices a little bit shorter last week, and then use that time mostly for conditioning and scrimmaging. This keeps the team in shape and game ready, and I like the effort they have been putting in this week while taking all their finals."
