SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's golf team will get to open the 2020-21 season on Monday at The Valley Invitational in Bakersfield, California.
The two-day event featuring nine other schools will be played at the par-72, 6,029-yard Bakersfield Country Club course. CSU Baskersfield and Cal Poly are serving as co-hosts to the event. Spectators are not allowed at the tournament due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Two veterans and two newcomers will comprise the Santa Clara participants. Senior Sarah Busey and junior Naomi Wong will be joined by freshmen Lauren Shew and Marie Jordaan.
Busey, who has played 24 career events, is a preseason All-West Coast Conference choice and Wong has seen action in four career tournaments.
Jordaan is a three-time all-state performer from Denver, Colorado, and Shew, who hails from San Francisco, helped lead Lowell High School to the CIF AAA Section championionship three times.
Teams and individuals will play 36 holes of golf on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. There is a shotgun start of 8 a.m. each day.
