Women's Golf Fifth After 36 Holes of WCC Championship

HENDERSON, Nev. - Santa Clara women's golf improved its scoring from the first to second round at the West Coast Conference Championship, but it was not enough to make a jump in the standings.

The Broncos followed Thursday's opening-round 316 with a second-round 305 on Friday to remain in fifth place with a 45-over-par total of 621.

BYU is atop the team and individual leaderboards. Allysha Mae Mateo (3-under) has a one-shot lead on the field for the Cougars who are at 8-over 584. Quynn Duong of Gonzaga is in second place.

Lauren Shew leads the way for Santa Clara. She is at 7-over 151 (79-72) and moved from a tie for 18th into a tie for 13th.

Emily Sumner and Sarah Busey are not far behind Shew for the Broncos. Sumner is tied for 18th at 11-over 155 (76-79) and Busey is tied for 20th with a total of 156 (80-76).

Marie Jordaan and Naomi Wong are tied for 24th at 16-over. Jordaan has rounds of 82-78 and Wong posted rounds of 81-79.
