Women's Golf 10th After 36 Holes at The Valley Invitational

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Naomi Wong sits in a tie for 25th place at 14-over-par, leading the way for Santa Clara women's golf after 36 holes at The Valley Invitational.

The Broncos shot a 658 (331-327) on Monday at the par-72, 6,029-yard Bakersfield Country Club course and are in 10th place.

Cal Poly, which is serving as co-host to the two-day event with CSU Bakersfield, leads the team standings with a 32-over 608 (303-305), four shots ahead of Cal State Fullerton (313-299).

Wong followed up an opening-round 81 with a 5-over 77, the best round of the day for the undermanned Broncos who only have four players available for the tournament.

Sarah Busey and Lauren Shew are each tied for 46th at 20-over 164. Busey had rounds of 84 and 80, and Shew carded an 81 and 83 in her first collegiate event.

Marie Jordaan, also playing in her first event for the Broncos, is tied for 56th with a 172 (85-87).

Brittany Shin of Cal State Fullerton leads the field at 1-over 145 (76-69).

The tournament concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes. A shotgun start is set for 8 a.m.
