Women's Golf 16th After Opening Day of Wyoming Cowgirl Classic

MARICOPA, Ariz. - Santa Clara women's golf was not able to carry the the momentum from its play in the first 18 holes at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic into the second round.

The Broncos followed an opening-round 299 with a 318 on Monday and sit at 41-over-par 617 in 16th place.

Gran Canyon is atop the leaderboard at 5-under 571 and South Dakota State is second 2-under in the 20-team tournament being played at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.

Emily Sumner leads the way for the Broncos at the two-day event that concludes Tuesday. She is in a tie for 36th at 6-over 150 (71-79).

Brittany Shin of Cal State Fullerton leads the individual leaderboard at 6-under 138. Tagiralani Luafalealo of Grand Canyon is one shot back in second.

Sarah Busey is tied for 60th at 9-over 153 (74-79) and Lauren Shew is tied for 73rd at 11-over 155 (76-79) for the Broncos.

Playing as an individual, Marie Jordaan is also tied for 73rd after posting rounds of 79-76.

Olivia Venderby is tied for 90th at 15-over 159 (78-81) and Naomi Wong is tied for 106th with a 21-over total of 165 (83-82).
