SEATTLE – Santa Clara softball was swept Saturday at the Seattle Round Robin. The Broncos (8-23) fell to Portland State (12-18) 14-8 and North Dakota State (27-11) 9-1 in five innings.
GAME 1
In a wild offensive shootout, a seven-run bottom of the fourth proved to be the difference for Portland State, after trailing the whole way up to that point. The Vikings got home runs from Darian Lindsey and Alexis Morrison in the inning and a two-run triple from Riley Casper as well.
Every starter for Portland State had at least one hit with Lindsey's four leading the way. She also added four RBIs. Casper picked up two triples and a double to go with three RBIs and two runs scored and Morrison added three runs scored and three RBIs on a pair of long balls.
In the circle, Katie Schroeder (6-6) got the win in 5 2/3 innings of relief, allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits. Starter Alyssa Burk lasted just 1 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on five hits.
Santa Clara took a lead three pitches into the game when Eleni Spirakis led off with a home run. Two batters later Sammy Needham and Hannah Russell knocked back-to-back doubles to give the Broncos their first of three-straight two-run innings to open the day.
Spirakis led the offense with three hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored from the leadoff spot with Needham adding a pair of doubles, an RBI, and a run scored as well.
Lauren Anderson (2-10) started and took the loss, tossing 1 2/3 innings. Anderson allowed eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
Santa Clara tried to mount a comeback in the last two innings, scoring single runs in the sixth and seventh, but were undone by three in the bottom of the sixth from the Vikings.
GAME 2
Santa Clara answered a run in the bottom of the first with one in the top of the second but North Dakota State came back with three in the bottom of the frame and never looked back, adding two more in the third and three in the fifth to walk off winners
Stephanie Soriano was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI and Montana DeCamp picked up two hits with a home run and four RBIs. Vanessa Anderson added two hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs while blasting a home run and Sam Koehn scored twice with two hits and a walk.
KK Leddy (15-6) went the distance to pick up the win. She allowed a run on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
Spirakis knocked in the Broncos lone run with a single to right and finished the game with two hits. Russell also picked up two hits, including a double and Emma Bickford scored a run.
Aubree Kim (0-5) took the loss, going 3 innings in the start. She surrendered six runs on six hits with four walks.
