SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball was topped 13-0 in five innings by Stanford Tuesday night in the Broncos return home after a month on the road.

The Cardinal (28-6) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first and continued to add on, scoring one in the second, five in the third, and four in the fourth.

Despite just one hit in the inning, Stanford's three-spot in the first put the team up for good. With two down and two on via walks, Whitney Burks doubled in two before coming in to score on a Santa Clara error.

Teaghan Cowles picked up three hits and an RBI out of the leadoff spot with Taylor Gindlesperge adding two hits, two runs scored, and five RBIs, including a grand slam. Four other Cardinal players picked up two hits with two adding a pair of RBIs each.

Carolyn Lee started and went 2 1/3 innings, getting a no-decision while allowing two hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Maddy Dwyer (10-4) picked up the win with 1 2/3 innings of relief.

The Broncos (8-26) best chance to score came in the bottom of the second when the first two batters reached via a hit and an error and moved up on a sacrifice bunt. After the second out was recorded, the Broncos loaded the bases but were unable to score.

Eleni Spirakis and Hannah Russell picked up the two Santa Clara hits.

Lauren Schiek (1-3) started and lasted 2 innings while taking the loss. She allowed four runs, three earned, on three hits with two walks.
