The Broncos compete in their only match next week against No. 43 Nevada-Las Vegas on Sunday, Feb. 3 at the Delgheri Tennis Center. The match begins at 10 a.m. P.T. The team hopes for clear skies as they play their first home match of the season.
Last Matches
The team traveled to Arizona early last week, where they were met by stiff competition. With chances to win all down the line, Santa Clara dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 42 Arizona on Jan. 22, followed by a 7-0 loss to Northern Arizona on Jan. 23. The matches scheduled on Saturday, Jan. 26 against UC Davis and Sunday, Jan. 27 against UC Santa Cruz, were postponed due to weather.

Georgino Back in Action
Samantha Georgino returned to the courts the week of Jan. 21 after undergoing major surgery on her elbow in the fall of 2006. Georgino teamed up with Carmen Pham at No. 2 doubles for last week's matches against Arizona and Northern Arizona.
Rain, Rain, Go Away
Due to a weekend of unyielding rain, Santa Clara's match against UC Davis, scheduled for Jan. 25, has been postponed until Wednesday, Mar. 12 at 2 p.m. P.T. at the Delgheri Tennis Center. The match against UC Santa Cruz, scheduled for Jan. 26 was also postponed, but has yet to be rescheduled.
No Place Like Home
After three matches on the road and two matches postponed, the Broncos are fired up to play their first home match at the Delgheri Tennis Center this Sunday. Santa Clara will play six out of the next seven matches at home, excluding their first West Coast Conference match against San Francisco on Friday, Feb. 15.
Last Match Against UNLV
The Broncos last faced the Rebels in season play in 2002. At the time, the Rebels were ranked No. 52 in the nation and were 3-1 overall that season. Santa Clara dropped a 6-1 decision to the visiting team, with Christine Limbers earning the only point with a 6-4, 1-0 win at the top position over 59th-nationally ranked Pauline Janus, who retired after the first set. Also, Jenny Siegel and Pati Ruiz teamed up for the Broncos for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
Q & A with Senior Lindsay McBride:
How did your matches on the road in Arizona go?
LM: The trip was really fun, we were able to get some experience under our belts. The teams we played were really good. But everyone out there was right in line with their player and could have beaten them. The matches could have gone the other way around. They'll help us later in the season.
Do you prefer playing matches on the road or on your home court?
LM: I like them both. It's fun to play at home because of all the people who come and are cheering. But it's nice to play on the road to change things up. Plus, traveling with the team is a lot of fun.
Singles or Doubles?
LM: I think I'm better at singles. I know what I'm doing and I'm a little more comfortable. But doubles is definitely more fun because you're playing with someone else.
Do you have any plans for after graduation?
LM: I think I might take a year off, travel, go to the mountains. I want to do something fun before I start working.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
LM: Europe. I've always wanted to go.
