Last Week
Women's tennis began WCC play last week against rivals from San Francisco and Saint Mary's. In their match against the Dons last week, Santa Clara fell 5-2, gaining the doubles point with strong play by Myra Davoudi and Lindsay McBride and Carmen Pham and Courtney Hull. Pham also earned a point in singles at the No. 5 position defeating her opponent in a tough 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) match. On Sunday, the Broncos fell to the No. 50 Saint Mary's 6-1, with Pham continuing her winning streak with the team's only point. Davoudi and McBride also earned a close 8-7 win in doubles.

Notes:

Consecutive Wins
Freshman Carmen Pham has won three matches in a row, beginning in the Broncos' match against UC Santa Cruz where she defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4. She then earned the only single's point in the team's match against San Francisco at the No. 5 position winning 6-2, 7-6 (10-8). Pham's third consecutive win became Santa Clara's only point earned against No. 50 St. Mary's in a 6-3 7-6 (6) win, a step up from last year when the Broncos fell 7-0 to the Gaels in season play.

Dangerous Duo
The doubles pair of Myra Davoudi and Lindsay McBride is also on a winning streak of three matches. This streak began with the team's dual match against UC Santa Cruz where they defeated their Banana Slug opponents 8-7 (11-9). Next against San Francisco, they earned an 8-5 victory for the Broncos, helping towards the doubles point. This past weekend, Davoudi and McBride earned a close 8-7 win in doubles against St. Mary's.

Last Match Against UC Santa Barbara
In 2006, Santa Clara was defeated 5-1 to the then-ranked No. 69 UC Santa Barbara. Doubles play was dropped due to weather conditions. Erika Barnes earned the only point for the Broncos in a 6-3 7-6 (6) victory at No. 5.

Last Match Against Fresno Pacific
Last year in their last match against Fresno Pacific, the Broncos handed the Sunbirds their first defeat of the season with a 4-3 victory. In doubles, Erika Barnes and Casey Knutson as well as Myra Davoudi and Lindsay McBride won their matches to earn the doubles point. Kim Daniel, McBride and Barnes also defeated their opponents in singles.
