STANFORD, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's tennis team had an eventful first two days at the ITA Northwest Regionals at Stanford University. Taking on the top competition in the region, the Broncos got singles wins in the first round from Myra Davoudi, Ashley Pane and Carmen Pham, as well as doubles wins from the teams of Stephanie Galainena and Pane and Davoudi and Lindsay McBride.
In singles, eight Broncos took the courts in the Round of 128 with Davoudi, Pane and Pham earning wins for SCU. Davoudi took out Jessica Harris of UC Davis 6-4, 6-1, while Pane defeated Washington State's Jessica Gomez 6-2, 7-5 and Pham eliminated Kristen MacWilliam of Gonzaga 6-2, 6-3. None of the three could get through the Round of 64. Pane had the best chance to get through, but she fell 6-3, 6-1 to Jolanta Twarowska of Pacific.
In consolation singles, McBride earned a win in the Round of 64 over Sarah Oudomvilay of USF 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5).
The Broncos also had some success in doubles, pulling out two close matches in the Round of 64. Galainena and Pane defeated DeVrye and Dinh of Nevada in a tight 9-7 affair to advance. In another tense contest, Davoudi and McBride got by Dukic and Tavita of San Jose State 8-6 to reach the next round. Courtney Hull and Meghan Madden received a first-round bye to become the third Bronco doubles team to reach the Round of 32. All three teams ran into strong competition in the next round with Davoudi and McBride and Galainena and Pane each losing to seeded opponents, while Madden and Hull fell to a good team from Sacramento State.
