SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's tennis team picked up its second win of the season with a convincing 6-1 victory over San Jose State in a Rivalry Series match. The Broncos took the doubles point and then earned victories in five out of the six singles matches on the day to earn the win.
In doubles, Myra Davoudi and Lindsay McBride had an outstanding day at No. 2, sweeping Silvana Dukic and Dana Popescu 8-0. Carmen Pham and Courtney Hull then won at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point.
Davoudi and McBride's solid doubles play translated to strong singles' matches as well. Davoudi dispatched Popescu in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 to win at No. 3, while McBride pulled out a tough three-setter over Amber Silverstone 1-6, 7-6 (7-3), 1-0 (10-6) at No. 2. Three freshmen victories rounded out singles play for SCU, as Pham, Ashley Pane and Hull won at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 respectively. All three captured victories in straight sets.
"I am really proud of our entire team's performance today," said head coach Ben Cabell. "There were a lot of close sets and matches today and the team competed very well in all of those situations. I am especially proud of Steph (Galainena) and Lindsay (McBride), as they definitely had the toughest match-ups of the day. Both of them came back after losing first sets and ended up playing great matches."
