Nov. 16, 2007

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University women's tennis announced the signing of Kacie Wagner to a national letter of intent in the early signing period. Wagner will join the up-and-coming Bronco women's tennis team in the fall of 2008.

""We are so happy to have Kacie become a part of our program," said head coach Ben Cabell. "She comes to SCU as one of the highest ranked recruits we have had in recent years. Not only is she a great tennis player but she also has fantastic leadership and academic skills which are going to make her extremely successful here at Santa Clara."

Wagner, who is her high school's senior class president, comes to Santa Clara from Gilbert High School in Gilbert, Arizona, where she has had an excellent high school and junior career. She was recognized as one of the top girls' tennis players in Arizona in 2007 by the Arizona Republic. In singles, she is ranked No. 91 in the nation in the USTA, while in doubles, she is currently at No. 5 nationally.

As a sophomore, she was named the Arizona Republic's Girls Tennis Player of the Year after capturing the Class 5A Division I singles title. She also ranked No. 1 in Girls 16 singles in the USTA's Southwest section. She went undefeated in regular season play at Gilbert that year. In Girls 16s in 2006, she posted a 39-16 record and won a number of junior tournaments, including the Southern Arizona Jr. Open and the USTA Phoenix Area Jr. Open.
