Women's Tennis Gains Momentum After Rivalry Series Win

March 7, 2008

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Coming off of Tuesday's big win against rival San Jose State, Bronco women's tennis head coach Ben Cabell is optimistic about his team's recent tough play translating through to the rest of the season. Leadership from seniors Myra Davoudi and Lindsay McBride combined with strong contributions from freshman Cameron Pham and Courtney Hall bode well for the Broncos.

The win against San Jose State brought out the best in freshman Carmen Pham, who won in singles 6-2, 6-0 over Silvana Dukic.

"She has grown into her role on the team and has learned how to play college tennis. She is going to give us a chance to win down the line," Cabell said.

Seniors Myra Davoudi and Lindsay McBride's strong work ethic has translated into their competitive doubles play throughout the season and has made the rest of the team better.

"They have some of the best work ethic on the team and have passed it down all the way to our freshman. They have hung in there in tough games and have pulled out some upsets, and they love to be on the court," said Cabell.

When asked if the win over San Jose State could be an opportunity for a season turnaround, especially with three home matches coming up, Cabell answered, "Absolutely. We definitely have a chance to win all three of our next matches. We may not be favored, but if our girls play the way they can, we can win.

"I insist on the girls enjoying this and that they give 100 percent win or lose. If we can do that, then this season is going to be a success. If they feel good about what they are doing, work hard, and have fun, then I consider that a success."

The Broncos take on UC Davis Wednesday, March 12 at 2:00 PM at the Degheri Tennis Center.
