Feb. 13, 2001

Box Score

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Freshman John Redmond allowed just three hits and struck out five batters to lead the Santa Clara University baseball team to a 1-0 shutout of UC Davis Tuesday at Buck Shaw Stadium.

Redmond, who faced just 23 batters in seven innings, combined with fellow freshmen Kellan McConnell and Jared Anderson to allow just five hits in the game for the Broncos (1-6). Anderson earned his first career save against the Aggies, who fell to 1-4 on the season.

The Broncos game-winning run was scored by senior Mike Theoharis on a RBI single by junior third baseman Pat Peavey in the seventh inning. Theoharis singled to right field then advanced to second base on a steal before making his way home on Peavey's single.

McConnell entered the game to start the eighth inning and immediately struck-out pinch hitter Robby Tulk. The Aggies threatened to score following singles by Darin Heredia and Patrick ONeil. Heredia advanced to third base but couldn't make it home when McConnell earned his second strikeout of the inning against Michael Murdock to end the inning.

Anderson entered the game in the ninth. He forced Ryan Ceriani at first base and struck out the final two batters to earn his first career save.

Santa Clara will return to action Friday in the first game of a three-game series at UC Santa Barabra. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
