SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Santa Clara University shortstop Mike Theoharis was named the West Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in helping the Broncos to a 4-1 record last week, the league office announced.

A fifth-year senior from San Francisco, Theoharis recorded 11 RBI in Santa Clara's five games last week, including a career-high six in an 11-6 win at WCC Coast Division rival Loyola Marymount on Friday. All 11 of his RBI came in a three-game sweep of the Lions at Page Stadium in Los Angeles.

Theoharis hit .409, went 9-for-22 and recorded a .818 slugging percenrage in the five games. He also recorded two home runs, three doubles and stole five bases. He is hitting .312 this season and has started 45 games overall. He has seven home runs and 22 multi-base hits. His 15 stolen bases leads the team.

"Mike has been a leader on our squad all season long and last week was an example of what he can do to help us win games," said Bronco Head Coach Mike Cummins. "He is probably our most experienced player and is the guy our players look to when we need a clutch play. He has a knack for getting it done when we need it."

A transfer from Canada Junior College, Theoharis started 54 games as a junior in 1999 at three different positions. He suffered a disclocated shoulder and missed the 2000 season while rehabilitating. Theoharis started the 2001 season at second base before moving to the shortstop position early in the season.

Santa Clara is currently tied for first-place in the WCC's Coast Division with a 15-9 league record. The Broncos face co-leader Gonzaga this weekend in a three-game series that will likely determine the divisional champion. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. with single games on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.

Sunday's contest will be the final home game for eight Bronco seniors, including Theoharis.
