STANFORD, Calif. - The Santa Clara University baseball team dropped an 8-0 decision to the No. 9-ranked Stanford Cardinal Sunday at Sunken Diamond. The game was moved to Stanford due to the weekend's inclement weather that made Buck Shaw Stadium unplayable on Sunday.
Freshman John Redmond (1-2) took the loss for the Broncos after allowing eight runs (four earned) and eight hits in 5.1 innings of action. Chad Fillinger and Anthony Rea completed the final 2.2 innings of the game and allowed just one hit. The Broncos limited Stanford to two runs over the last six innings of the game following the Cardinal's four-run third.
Stanford pitcher Jeff Bruksch went the distance, allowing just three Santa Clara hits to move his record to 3-0 on the season. Stanford has won nine of its last 10 games and moves to 11-4 on the season.
Santa Clara drops to 2-10 on the year with the loss. The two teams will meet in the third and final game of the series Monday at 6 p.m. at Buck Shaw Stadium on the Santa Clara campus.
