SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Four student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play baseball at Santa Clara University beginning next season, the school announced today. Pitcher Conor Curtis from Sammamish, Wash., shortstop Eddie Espinoza from San Jose, Calif., catcher Nic Rodriguez from Albuquerque, N.M. and outfielder Robbie Wilder from Anderson, Calif. will join the Broncos when the fall quarter begins in September.
Curtis is a 6-1, 180-pound pitcher from Skyline High School in Sammamish, Wash. He played in the prestigious Area Code games last summer and was an honorable mention KingCo 3A all-league selection this year. Conor's three strikeouts of the four batters he faced in a relief role clinched a championship sweep as Skyline recently won both the regular-season and tournament league titles for the second consecutive season. The Spartans advanced to the Class 3A state tournament.
Espinoza is a 5-11, 180-pound shortstop from Valley Christian High School in San Jose, Calif. He was a two-time all-league player for a team that won the 2001 Division II Coast Section championship. Espinoza scored the winning run in the championship game and earlier in the season was named Bay Area Athlete of the Week by the San Jose Mercury News.
Rodriguez is a 6-0, 180-pound catcher from Cochise College in Douglas, Ariz. He played prep baseball at St. Pius X in Albuquerque. While at Cochise College, he batter over .300 both seasons with a high of .355 and a league-high 23 doubles as a freshman in 2000.
Wilder is a 5-11, 175-pound outfielder from West Valley High School in Anderson, Calif. He is the Most Valuable Player for the Northern Athletic League.
