Five Broncos Named to All-West Coast Conference Teams

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Five Santa Clara baseball players were named to the All-West Coast Conference teams, the league announced today. Leading the list is sophomore outfielder Jack Headley, who was named a first team member. Senior designated hitter Matt Queen and sophomore left-hand pitcher Joe Diefenderfer were named to the second team while honorable mention honors were awarded to senior short stop Mike Theoharis and senior right-hand reliever Jim DeMartini.

Headley batted .379 in WCC play, the sixth highest mark in the league. He added 44 hits and 10 stolen bases. Queen batted .344 with a conference-leading totals in doubles (16) and RBI (38). Theoharis batted .331 in WCC action with eight doubles, seven home runs and 27 RBI.

On the mound, Diefenderfer compiled a 4-4 WCC record, with a 4.56 ERA in 71 innings. He struck out a team-leading 49 conference batters. DeMartini, was unscored upon in his first nine WCC appearances. In 21.2 innings pitched, he was 2-0 with one save and a 1.25 ERA.

The Broncos completed their season last weekend with a 23-33 mark, tying with Gonzaga as Coast Division co-leaders with matching 17-13 WCC records.
