WCC Championship Weekend Planned for Bronco Baseball

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - With a West Coast Conference divisional championship on the line, the final home game for eight Bronco seniors and a number of exciting promotions planned, fans of Santa Clara University baseball should be out in full force this week.

The Broncos face WCC Coast Division co-leader Gonzaga in a key three-game series beginning Friday night at Buck Shaw Stadium. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Single games are also scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, the first 500 fans in attendance will receive free burritos, courtesy of Mondo Burrito. In addition, Bon Appetit will be providing free Jamba Juice to fans prior to the game and there will be a number of interactive fan promotions and givaways throughout the game.

Sunday's game will mark the final home contest for eight Bronco seniors, including Mike Balestreri, Jim DeMartini, Norm Hayes, John Hilvert, Dave Mallen, Matt Miller, Matt Queen, Mike Theoharis,

Santa Clara enters the game with a 15-9 league record and tied for first-place in the Coast Division with Gonzaga. The Broncos are 21-26 overall, while the Bulldogs carry a 24-20 mark into the game. Santa Clara plays a Tuesday contest at top 10-ranked Stanford, while Gonzaga hosts Washington Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Gonzaga won two of the three games between the two teams in Spokane earlier this season. Santa Clara won the first contest by a score of 8-4 but lost the second game 8-7 in 10 innings after play was halted due to darkness. Gonzaga took game three of the series by a score of 10-7.
