Battle of Baseball League Leaders Set for Friday

April 5, 2001

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The eyes of the West Coast Conference baseball world will be on Santa Clara's Buck Shaw Stadium this weekend as the Coast Division-leading Broncos begin a three-game series against West Division-leading and 25th-ranked Pepperdine.

The first game of the series will be played Friday at 7 p.m. The two teams will also meet Saturday and Sunday in single games with a 1 p.m. first pitch.

The two teams possess identical 9-3 conference records but the standings in the two divisions are far from similar. In the West Division, Pepperdine is just one game ahead of second-place San Diego as the two teams continue to fight for the right to advance to the league's championship series in May. The Broncos lead the Coast Division by four games over second-place Gonzaga and should extend its lead with a series victory over the Waves this weekend.

Friday's game, presented by Enterprise Rent-a-Car, is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will feature a number of exciting fan-oriented promotions as well as pre-game and in-game festivities. In-N-Out Burger will provide the first 500 fans with a free In-N-Out Burger served from its popular mobile kitchen, while Bon Appetit will provide free samples of Jamba Juice. The first pitch will be thrown out by a representative of Santa Clara University, Enterprise Rent-a-Car and Bronco student-athletes.

The game will also feature the launch of Bronco Kidz, Santa Clara's official youth club.

The two teams will conclude the series with single games on Saturday and Sunday, each starting at 1 p.m. at Buck Shaw Stadium.
