Broncos Top-4 in Rain-Shortened Golf Opener

SPRINGVILLE, Utah – During a stop-and-start, rain-soaked event in Utah, Santa Clara had three players in the top-10 and finished fourth in a 16-team national field. The Hobble Creek Fall Classic marked the beginning of the season for the Broncos.

Santa Clara was off to a great start in Round Three Tuesday. However, rain, lightning and inclement weather would cut the event short. Kristin Le (pictured), Monique Riley and Kyleigh Moreno were top-10 in a field of 96.

"Really disappointed that we weren't able to finish (Round Three)," said SCU head coach Krystal Kelly. "But we're taking away a lot of positives from this week. We had only been together as a team for a few days before coming out here and I was impressed with the girls and their composure, especially considering the conditions."

Playing through stoppages and eventual darkness, Riley was able to shoot a 1-over par 72 Monday afternoon. Moreno was steady with rounds of 75-74 and Le went 73-76. Each player was +7 for the tournament, just eight shots off the tournament lead.

Details: Two-day/54-hole tournament. Action will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. MT each day. The field will play two rounds on Monday and one on Tuesday.
