DANVILLE, Calif. – Sophomore Kristin Le posted the lowest score for the Santa Clara women's golf team with a 2-over-par 74 on Tuesday and the Broncos shot a 304 moving into a tie for fourth-place after two rounds of the West Coast Conference championship tournament.
The Broncos' two-round total of 606 leaves them 23 shots behind leader BYU heading into Wednesday's final round.
The scores were elevated in Tuesday's second round with only BYU scoring below 300. "The course played difficult today," head coach Krystal Kelly noted.
Santa Clara is tied with USF, nine shots behind third-place Gonzaga and 12 shots behind second-place Pepperdine.
"We played pretty steady," Kelly added. "We are still very much in it, so we need to post a good number tomorrow."
Le scored the lowest round of any Santa Clara player so far with her second-round 74, moving into a tie for ninth-place with a two-day total of 6-over 150.
Monique Riley matched yesterday's 75 and is tied with Le and a trio of golfers at 150. BYU's Lea Garner charged to the top of the individual leaderboard and holds a one-shot lead over Pepperdine's Patricia Wong heading into the final round.
Annie Freman shot a second-round 76 and sits alone in 14th place at 7-over 151.
"Kristin, Monique and Annie played well today. We are looking forward to getting back out there and seeing what we can do tomorrow," Kelly said.
