Women's Golf, Le Hold First Round Lead At Matador Invitational; Second Round Play Suspended

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's golf team shot a first round 319 to take the lead at the 10-team Matador Invitational. Second round play at the 5,839-yard Wood Ranch Golf Club was suspended due to windy conditions and slow play. The remaining holes will be made up prior to Tuesday's final round.

Five Broncos placed in the top-20 of the 64-player field after the opening 18 holes with sophomore Kristin Le holding a one shot lead over tournament host Cal State Northridge's Chomchana Phuchanbanchob. Le scored a 4-over 76.

Conditions were so treacherous only 10 players scored below 80 in the opening round.

Monique Riley shot a 79 to place in a tie for sixth place. Ashley Noda and Isabella Salant both scored 81 to tie for 13th and Meghan Shain was at 10-over 82 and tied for 19th after round one.

Play will resume Tuesday morning with the completion of round two followed by the scheduled final round.
