Ashley Noda Leads SCU's Colby Invitational By Two Shots

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Ashley Noda shot an opening-round 74 and followed that up with a even-par 72 in the afternoon to lead the 6th Annual Santa Clara Colby Invitational after the first two rounds. Noda, a senior from Roseville, Calif., has a two-shot advantage over the field heading into final round play Tuesday. 

Rain fell overnight and in the early morning at Silver Creek Country Club, which softened up the course in South San Jose. Noda's senior classmate Monique Riley was able to post an afternoon round of 77 to sit in third place and sophomore Kyleigh Moreno had back-to-back rounds in the 70's to tie for sixth. 

"The golf course is definitely a challenging one," said Santa Clara head coach Krystal Kelly. "I set up the hole locations to be somewhat difficult, so we expected scores to be a little higher. But overall, I am pleased. I saw a lot of good shots out there today. More specifically, Ashley played fantastic - very proud of her. Looking forward to tomorrow, I know we can (win), we have been working hard for it."  

Final round play begins with an 8 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday morning.

Dates (Site): Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 19-20 (San Jose, Calif.)
Host: Santa Clara University
Field (4 teams): Santa Clara, CS Northridge,  Boise State, Cal State Bakersfield 
Details: 54-hole event. Both days will begin with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. (PDT). The field will play two rounds of 18 holes on Monday and one final round of 18 holes on Tuesday
