MARICOPA, Ariz. – Junior Annie Freman set a 54-hole program record with a 9-under-par 207 to capture individual medalist honors, leading the Santa Clara women's golf team to a runner-up finish at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, completed Tuesday at the 6,231-yard, par-72 Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.

Freman matched her own 18-hole program record with a final round 5-under 67 to win her fifth career individual title by seven shots over teammate Kristin Le, who ended the event at 2-under 214. Freman extended her own program record for career titles.

"It's hard to put into words," head coach Krystal Kelly said of Freman. "Annie played so well today. She was steady. She hit a bunch of greens and made six birdies. It was fun watching her play."

Freman posted a tournament-best 15 birdies to break the previous 54-hole program record of 209, which was set by Miki Ueoka at the Fresno State Lexus Classic in 2009.

Le carded four birdies in the final round to finish the day at 1-under 71 to move into second place. She scored a 71 and 72 on Monday to finish the event as one of three players below par.

"Kristin played extremely well. She is probably the steadiest player on the team," Kelly said of her sophomore.

Le led the field in par-4 scoring and Freman was the best on par-5 holes.

"I'm so proud of Annie and Kristin and the entire team," Kelly added.

The Broncos recorded 41 birdies for the three-rounds, but couldn't overcome Idaho, falling by eight strokes to the Vandals. Santa Clara scored rounds of 287, 296 and 298 for an 881 total, the second-lowest 54-hole team in school history (875 in the Boise State Bronco Classic, Sept. 16-17, 2013). The Broncos have placed among the top three in six of their past seven events with three team titles.

"I think this well give us some good momentum going into the WCC Championship," Kelly concluded.

The Broncos will next compete for the WCC title at the conference championship on April 18-20 at Blackhawk Country Club in Danville, California.
