ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's golf team couldn't take advantage of favorable conditions in Tuesday's final round, dropping a spot on the leaderboard to finish third at the Sacramento State Invitational, which was competed at the 6,008-yard, par-72 Sierra View Country Club in Roseville.

The Broncos' 307 team score on Tuesday gave them a 908 total and was enough to fend off tournament host Sacramento State, but they lost out on a runner-up position by a single shot to Nevada. San Francisco led from start to finish to claim the team title with an 889 total.

"We typically hit a lot of fairways, but we missed some today, which didn't set us up as well," said head coach Krystal Kelly.

Santa Clara continued its string of top-4 finishes this year. The Broncos have placed fourth or better in eight of their nine events and have three team titles. "Overall, I'm happy with the tournament," Kelly said. "I wish we could have scored a little better today."

Earning her third consecutive top-5 finish and the 20th top-10 of her career, junior Annie Freman was the top individual finisher for Santa Clara. She scored a 75 on Tuesday to finish in a fourth-place tie at 8-over 224, four strokes behind USF's Vanessa Ha and Northern Colorado's Amanda Myers. Ha won the event on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff.

Senior Ashley Noda carded a final round 3-over 75 to finish tied for ninth with a pair of golfers, including teammate Kristin Le, whose final round 78 dropped her from the top-5. Both players finished with a 227 total (+11).

Competing on the Broncos five-player team for the first time this season, sophomore Isabella Salant placed in a tie for 28th with a 234 (+18) total.

After tying a career-low score with Monday's second-round 74, freshman Cynthia Navis shot an 81 on Tuesday to fall into a tie for 46th with a 238 total.

"I think we learned a lot today," Kelly noted. "We're looking forward to heading to Arizona."

Santa Clara's final tournament ahead of the West Coast Conference Championships is the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, slated to get underway on April 4 at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz.
